Honey Racing – Race Report
Pembrey, South Wales
Mike was a bit apprehensive on going to this track after having crashed on the test day last there last season!
Mike had about 6 sessions out on track all going well making a few little changes to the bike to set it up for the track. On the second to last session Mike lost the front going into the first corner, luckily he wasn’t hurt at all! Mike and his brother Danny worked hard to get the bike ready for the last session so Mike could test it ready for qualifying on Saturday morning. Mike was happy with how the bike felt so it was a relief that we made it past Friday at Pembrey!
When we arrived at the track we had to change the tyres due to it raining so was going to be a wet qualifying session! Mike went out and looked confident and qualified 3rd overall out of 24 on grid so was very happy with that.
Luckily the rain had stopped and it was a dry race!
Mikes start wasn’t great and he was overtaken by some of the premier boys as we knew this would happen but he didn’t let them get away and had quite a good battle with a couple of other riders swapping positions throughout the race, he finished 8th overall – 1st in class – finishing 6 seconds ahead of 2nd clubman.
Mike was starting 7th on the grid, he got a better start and soon got up to speed doing consistent lap times hanging onto the premiers in front. Mike finished the race 9th overall – another 1st in class – this time finishing nearly 9 seconds in front of the second clubman.
In both of theses races Mike got the fastest clubman lap.
Mike was starting 9th on the grid which is not a great place as it’s on the outside of the track and not a great position for the first corner! Mike got a good start however, and made it through but couldn’t quite tag onto the front runners so it made for a very lonely race for Mike, with the guy in front of him 10 seconds ahead and the guy behind was about 8 secs behind so he was just lapping on his own! But he finished the race 6th overall another 1st in class! And another fastest clubman lap of the race as well which was also Mike’s personal best time around this track.
Mike was starting 6th on the grid, he got going okay then got sat up on the hairpin which he said spoilt his race as the first group had gone and he couldn’t catch them by the time he got some places back but he still finished 7th overall and 1st in class!
So all in all was a great weekend with 4 out of 4 class wins – Mike extends his lead in the championship.
